Mandatory Exam for Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs)

The SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has introduced a regulatory framework for Specialized Investment Funds (SIF) to bridge the gap between Mutual Funds and Portfolio Management Services (PMS) in terms of portfolio flexibility.

This framework is effective from April 1, 2025, and aims to provide investors with an alternative investment vehicle that offers characteristics bridging these two options.

The SIF scheme does not require an exam for investors to participate. However, entities engaged in the sale and/or distribution of Mutual Fund products must have passed the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) Series-XIII: Common Derivatives Certification Examination to offer SIF products.

The NISM Series-XIII exam is a mandatory certification for those who want to work in financial markets and is conducted by security market participants and intermediates mandated by SEBI regulations. The exam is designed to ensure that professionals have the necessary knowledge and skills to operate in the financial markets.
